The PURsuit of Happiness

June is Adopt A Cat Month so we figured that your quest for feline companionship needed a few tips to help you on your noble pursuit.

Here are 10 tips to consider when looking to adopt a whiskered friend:

  1. To help you find the Purr-fect Match ask yourself this question: Are you looking for a lap-loving snuggle buddy or an independent adventurer? Consider your lifestyle and what type of cat would fit best.

  2. Kittens are undeniably adorable but don't discount the charm of a distinguished older cat. Older cats often come with the bonus of being litter-trained and having a more settled temperament.

  3. Long-haired, short-haired, or hairless – the choice is yours! But remember, with great fluff comes great responsibility (and grooming). Add that to the cost of cat ownership.

  4. Will your new feline friend be an indoor-only cat, or will they have access to the great outdoors? This decision can impact their safety, health, and your choice of cat (take into consideration of the elements, spaying, and microchipping).

  5. Cats, like all living creatures, can have health issues. Be prepared to provide regular vet check-ups, vaccinations, and any necessary treatments for your new feline family member.

  6. Cats may have nine lives, but they still come with expenses. Food, litter, toys, and vet bills can add up, so make sure you're financially prepared for your new fur-baby.

  7. If you already have pets at home, consider how your new cat will fit into the mix. Some cats prefer to be the only feline in the household, while others thrive with furry or nonfurry siblings (a.k.a. humans).

  8. As you know we love shelters and rescues! These types of organizations are brimming with cats looking for their forever homes, especially this time of year(June is considered kitten season). Adopting from these organizations saves a life and makes room for more animals in need.

  9. Cats can take time to adjust to their new surroundings. Be prepared to give your new feline friend the time and space they need to feel comfortable and secure in their new home.

  10. Ultimately, adopting a cat is about finding a loving companion who will bring joy, laughter, and the occasional hairball into your life.

Embrace the journey and enjoy the many rewards of sharing your home with a feline friend.
