Nermington’s Story

Where every purchase makes a difference.

Hi! I am Karlee Salvetti, Founder of Nermington’s.

I started Nermington's with the mission to give back to local shelters and rescues.

My dream was to open a shelter but life had other paths for me to take. The timing just wasn't right. Back in December of 2021, I had the idea that even though I couldn't start my own shelter didn't mean that I couldn't give back, and help pets find their humans.

So, I decided to open a pet boutique with that mission!

Our boys, Hank and Sherman, are the inspiration of Nermington's!

Hank

We adopted Hank in 2018 from the Asheville Humane Society. Oddly enough, my husband was begging for a dog at the time and so I told him we could go to just look.

Well, we ended up at the shelter maybe 30 minutes before they closed, and when we turned the corner there was Hank, his name at the shelter was Chuck Chuck, standing there completely silent looking as handsome as ever. He and I locked eyes and nudged my husband to look at him. Instant love is an understatement. We asked to see him in the yard, and he immediately approached my husband.

The next day, I picked up our boy and brought him home. We named him Hank because well, Handsome Hank just fit! Hank's story remains a bit of a mystery, but we think he was found on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Hank is an adventurous pup! He loves hiking, walking, and playing in the rivers, but HATES camping (understandable). He is a goofy pup that loves taking selfies. He prances when he has a bandanna on and is one of the best cuddlers in the house (besides Mom of course!)

Sherman

We found Sherman on Craigslist back in January of 2021. I was in a pretty depressed state (because life is hard sometimes). I had been asking for a puppy, pretty consistently up until this point. Any way I could work it into the conversation, I did!

My husband, the wonderful man he is, saw me in my depression, and not only bought me a Publix cake (if you haven't had a Publix cake, now is the time!) but he looked at me and said "I think it's time you bought a puppy"! So between my tears, stuffing my face with cake, and watching Schitt's Creek, I went on the hunt to find my pup. I tried getting in to see the pups at the Greenville Humane Society but they were booked by appointments for months. So, I browsed Craigslist. I came across the post about 6 four-and-a-half-week-old pit puppies. I reached out and made an appointment to meet the puppies the next day after work. That afternoon I got a text and said that the puppies were going fast and there were only 2 left. I immediately jumped in my car and headed right over.

Long story short, Sherman came home with me. We named him Sherman at 3 am, he was sleeping on my chest and starting to move around so I knew he had to go pee. Me being the tired new dog mom I was, got up a little too late and he peed right on my chest. My husband got up to help me and said "Hey we should name him Peabody, get it! PEEbody! Wait! No! Sherman!" And that ladies and gentlemen is how he got his name. Sherman loves to play with all his toys at once (balls and squeaky toys are his favorite), he loves playing in the water which makes bath time very messy, and he absolutely loves his big brother Hank.

Both of these pups have brought joy, love, and so much life to our family. We are so blessed to have them in our lives to show us to get excited when company comes, cuddle breaks are necessary for a good day and make bad days good, and no matter what love is always given!

We hope that our story is a stepping stone for the impact we strive to give. We truly believe that every pet should have a human!
